according to Merriam-Webster online, laziness is defined as followings:
Pronunciation: 'lA-zE
1 a : disinclined to activity or exertion : not energetic or vigorous b : encouraging inactivity or indolence
2 : moving slowly : SLUGGISH...
synonyms LAZY, INDOLENT, SLOTHFUL mean not easily aroused to activity. LAZY suggests a disinclination to work or to take trouble
after consulting the dictionary thoroughly, I don't think any of my work behaviour fulfilled the above mentioned quality.
exactly because of that,i am confused when my boss accused me of being lazy yesterday.
i was writing a story about bread product carrying misleading labels hiding the fact that, the content being used could raise the risk of being diagnosed with coronary heart disease.
there is one baker among the many i was calling, failed to be reached.
in my draft article i wrote: Maxim failed to be reached for comment.
according to my boss, that's laziness.
i protested against it. I told him i couldn't accept what he said and packed my bag and left the bloody newsroom.
The decision of writing Maxim failed to be reached for comment was because 1.it's one of the major bakery so it matters to the story and 2. i called their complaint department, their customer service hotline, their PR department and the other number i didn't call was "Chinese new year food ordering''.
dialing their numbers throughout the whole afternoon and at the end i was accused of being lazy.
i refused to let my last bit of integrity being taken away by his filthy mouth. i told my friends, he can call me a terrible writer, an inexperienced journalist, a dumb girl, ......and he can even free feel to refer his mother not being a female but he can't accuse me of being lazy.
who comes in to work at 8:30am and left at 10:30pm every day providing u clean copies without any questions asked day after day for a tiny salary almost equals to unemployment?
if i am lazy, i wouldn't even consider working as a journalist and picking up an unwelcoming area to cover. no one cares about welfare, social problems and human rights in hong kong but i'm still insisting to cover stories in this area. because i believed the stories of these people deserved a chance to be told in a society where justice is distorted by money and power.
after people quitting from the newsroom one by one each month, the goodbye cakes from workmates saying farewell had stuffed up my stomach everyday, i really couldn't understand why does my boss is still trying his rare hardworking staff like shit.
may be he wants to publish the whole newspaper by himself.
that's a glamorous dream.
after attempting to take away my last bit of integrity, which he failed, he ended up stripping respect from his staff and setting a goal for them to find a new job.
