good news at last

it's been a hell of a month, i think the newsroom has been officially cursed with demons. justice is dead and no one is doing the right thing anymore.
let's see, there is the pressure for self-censorship, insane humiliation for taking 5 minutes to eat a sandwich on your desk, the horror of someone less experienced following up on your stories and sucking you for contacts without a thank-you-very-much, long hours, continuously low pay, the call for a pay rise is still unaddressed, persisting stomach problems...and fulfilling a younger straight male friend's fantasy to hang out in a gay bar till 4am when you have to work early the next day...nothing will make you laugh, except the following. check it out, this is good stuff and a guaranteed smile-bringer.

Thank you AP in Berlin.

Associated Press, 26 April
BERLIN - An early-morning bank customer had a bit of a shock when he found a horse at the automatic teller machine.
The horse's owner, identified only as Wolfgang H., had a bit too much to drink the night before and decided to sleep it off inside the bank's heated foyer, police said Tuesday.
The 40-year-old machinist told Bild newspaper he had had "a few beers" with a friend in Wiesenburg, southwest of Berlin, and decided to hit the hay in the bank on his way home.
Confronted with the lack of a hitching-post, he brought the 6-year-old horse, named Sammy, in with him.
When a customer came across the horse and sleeping rider in the bank at 4:15 a.m. Monday, he called police, who then came and woke the owner up and sent him on his way.
No charges were filed, but there might be some cleanup needed: Apparently Sammy made his own after-hours deposit on the carpet.

how does the world get so fucked up?

MIAMI (Reuters) - Police in Florida have arrested an activist for feeding the homeless in downtown Orlando.

Eric Montanez, 21, of the charity group Food Not Bombs, was charged with violating a controversial law against feeding large groups of destitute people in the city center, police said on Thursday.

Montanez was filmed by undercover officers on Wednesday as he served "30 unidentified persons food from a large pot utilizing a ladle," according to an arrest affidavit. The Orlando area is home to Disney World and Universal Studios Florida.

The Orlando law, which is supported by local business owners who say the homeless drive away customers but has been challenged in court by civil rights groups, allows charities to feed more than 25 people at a time within two miles of Orlando city hall only if they have a special permit. They can get two permits a year.

Police collected a vial of the stew Montanez was serving as evidence.

Police spokeswoman Barbara Jones said in an e-mail it was the first time anyone had been arrested under the feeding ban.

Montanez was charged with a misdemeanor.
